The Global Talent Stream (GTS) is a fast-track work permit program designed to help Canadian employers hire highly skilled foreign workers. It offers two-week processing times for work permits and helps businesses fill labor shortages in specialized fields.
Who Can Apply?
The program has two categories:
1. Category A: High-Growth Companies
✔ For Canadian companies that need highly skilled workers to grow
✔ Requires referral from a designated partner (e.g., government agencies, accelerators)
✔ Candidates must have specialized expertise
2. Category B: In-Demand Occupations
✔ For employers hiring workers in high-demand tech jobs
✔ Occupations are listed on the Global Talent Occupations List, including:
- Software engineers
- Data scientists
- AI specialists
- Cybersecurity experts
- UX/UI designers
Steps to Apply for the Global Talent Stream
Step 1: Employer Applies for GTS
- Employers must submit a Labour Market Benefits Plan (LMBP) to show how hiring a foreign worker will benefit Canada
- Pay the $1,000 processing fee per position
Step 2: Get LMIA Approval
- The employer must obtain a positive LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment), which is processed in 10 business days
Step 3: Worker Applies for a Work Permit
- The foreign worker submits a work permit application
- Processing time: Two weeks for most cases
Step 4: Start Working in Canada
- Once approved, the skilled worker can start working immediately
