If you’re in Canada as a visitor and want to stay longer than your authorized period, you must apply for a Visitor Record before your current status expires. A Visitor Record is not a visa but a document that extends your stay as a temporary resident.
1. Check Your Current Status
- Visitors are typically allowed to stay in Canada for up to six months from their date of entry.
- Check the stamp in your passport or your original visitor visa approval letter to confirm your expiry date.
2. Apply Before Your Status Expires
- You must apply for a Visitor Record at least 30 days before your current status expires.
- If you apply on time, you may stay under “implied status” while waiting for a decision.
3. Gather Required Documents
To apply for a Visitor Record, you need:
✅ A copy of your passport (bio-data page + all stamped pages)
✅ Proof of financial support (bank statements, a letter from a sponsor, or proof of income)
✅ A letter explaining why you want to extend your stay
✅ A return flight ticket or proof of travel plans (optional but recommended)
✅ Any supporting documents (such as family ties, medical reasons, or proof of ongoing studies)
