To demonstrate language proficiency in French for Express Entry, you must take an approved language test and submit your scores. French proficiency can significantly boost your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, especially if you are fluent in both French and English. Here’s how you can prove your proficiency:
1. Take an Approved French Language Test
Canada accepts the following French tests for Express Entry:
- Test d’évaluation de français (TEF Canada)
- Test de connaissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada)
Both tests assess four language skills:
✅ Listening (Compréhension orale)
✅ Reading (Compréhension écrite)
✅ Writing (Expression écrite)
✅ Speaking (Expression orale)
2. Achieve the Required CLB Levels
Your test scores are converted into Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels. The higher your CLB level, the more points you earn.
- CLB 7 or higher in all four skills is recommended for strong eligibility.
- CLB 9 or higher provides additional CRS points.
3. Earn Additional CRS Points for French Proficiency
- Up to 50 extra points if you score CLB 7+ in French and CLB 4+ in English
- Up to 25 extra points if you score CLB 7+ in French but below CLB 4 in English
4. Submit Your Language Test Results
Your test results must be less than two years old at the time of your Express Entry application. Submit your scores in your Express Entry profile.
5. Consider the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
If you have strong French skills, you may also be eligible for:
- Ontario’s French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
- Other provincial nominee programs (PNPs) that target Francophone candidates
By proving your French proficiency, you can improve your CRS score, qualify for additional immigration programs, and increase your chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
