Step 1: Sign in to Your IRCC Account
To check your application status:
- Visit the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.
- Click on Sign in to your account.
- Log in using your GCKey or Sign-In Partner credentials.
Step 2: Check Your Application Status
Once logged in:
- Go to the Express Entry profile section.
- Click on View the status of your application.
- You will see updates on different stages of your application, including:
- Submitted: Your application has been received.
- Processing: IRCC is reviewing your documents.
- Medical Exam Passed: If required, you will see an update after IRCC reviews your medical exam results.
- Background Check in Progress: Security and criminal record checks are being conducted.
- Final Decision: IRCC has made a decision, and you will receive instructions on the next steps.
Step 3: Use the Application Status Tracker (For PR Applications)
If you have received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and submitted your permanent residency (PR) application, you can use the IRCC Application Status Tracker:
- Visit the IRCC Status Tracker Portal.
- Enter your Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and application number.
- View real-time updates on your application progress.
Step 4: Check Processing Times
To get an idea of how long your application might take:
- Visit the IRCC Processing Times page.
- Select Express Entry – Permanent Residency.
- The average processing time is 6 months, but it may vary based on the volume of applications.
Step 5: Stay Updated via Email Notifications
- IRCC will send important updates via email, so check your inbox and spam folder regularly.
- You can also enable text message notifications in your IRCC account settings.
Step 6: Contact IRCC for Updates
If your application is taking longer than expected, you can:
- Submit a web form (IRCC Web Inquiry) to request an update.
- Call IRCC at 1-888-242-2100 (if inside Canada).
- Contact your local visa office (if applying from outside Canada).
