The Global Talent Stream (GTS) is a fast-track work permit program designed to help Canadian employers hire highly skilled foreign talent quickly. This stream is part of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) and offers expedited processing for in-demand tech and specialized occupations.
1. What Is the Global Talent Stream?
The GTS allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers in specialized fields, particularly in tech and STEM-related roles. The program features:
- Two-week work permit processing
- No Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) advertising requirement
- Priority processing for high-demand jobs
2. Categories Under the Global Talent Stream
The GTS has two categories:
Category A: High-Growth Companies
- For Canadian companies referred by a designated partner
- Must demonstrate the need to hire unique, specialized talent
Category B: In-Demand Occupations
- For skilled workers in designated occupations from the Global Talent Occupations List, including:
- Software Engineers
- Data Scientists
- IT Project Managers
- Cybersecurity Specialists
3. Benefits of the Global Talent Stream

4. How to Apply for the Global Talent Stream
- Employer Applies for GTS
- Must submit a Labour Market Benefits Plan (LMBP) to demonstrate how hiring foreign talent benefits Canada.
- Job Offer & Work Permit Application
- Once approved, the foreign worker applies for a work permit.
- Receive Decision in 2 Weeks
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) processes the application within 14 days.
- Move to Canada
- Once the work permit is approved, the worker can move to Canada and start employment.
